AI visibility methodology
Profiles can show a panel labeled “AI visibility, measured”. This page explains what that number is.
What it measures
We run a fixed set of prompts that a person might ask an AI answer engine about a type of business in a place, for example a practice area in a city. The measurement is the share of those prompts in which an engine mentions the business (mention rate) and the share in which it cites the business’s website as a source (citation rate). The overall figure, from 0 to 100, combines the two.
Engines covered
- ChatGPT
- Google AI (AI Overviews and AI Mode)
- Perplexity
Cadence
Every claimed profile, free or paid, is measured once at claim time. Paid plans add a monthly re-measurement and a comparison with nearby businesses; payment buys more frequent measurement, never the result. Each panel shows its measurement date so an older measurement is easy to spot. Unclaimed profiles show “AI visibility not measured”.
Who measures it
Measurements are produced by VisibAI. A number is shown only when a stored measurement exists; we never estimate or fill in a value.
What it is not
It is not a measure of quality, skill, results or service, and it is not a rating, a rank or a recommendation. AI answers change often and differ between people and sessions. Listings are never sorted, filtered or highlighted by this measurement.
