Compliance rules we follow

Firms on Record applies the strictest version of each rule we found in any US state, in every state. These rules are built into the site, not optional settings. Banned marketing words such as “best”, “top”, “expert”, “specialist”, “verified” and “guaranteed” are blocked in our own copy and in anything a business submits.

Law firm listings

  1. Law firm profiles have no contact or message forms. Visitors reach a firm only through its own phone number and website. Follows: ABA Model Rules 7.2(b) and 7.3; state lawyer referral service rules (strictest reading).
  2. Nothing on the site picks or suggests lawyers for a visitor: no quizzes, chat or recommendation features. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(b)(2) and state lawyer referral service rules.
  3. Listings are ordered by distance or alphabetically. Nothing is sorted, filtered or highlighted by AI visibility. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.1 (no misleading communications); state directory rules.
  4. Every paid law firm profile and every sponsored law listing is labeled “Attorney Advertising” and carries the sponsored disclaimer. Follows: New York Rule of Professional Conduct 7.1(f); harmless elsewhere.
  5. A paid law firm profile cannot be published until it names a responsible attorney and an office address. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(d); state rules requiring a responsible lawyer and office location on ads (e.g. Florida 4-7.12, Texas 7.02).
  6. Firm-submitted copy may not include past results, case values, testimonials or client quotes. Follows: State restrictions on past results and testimonials (e.g. Florida 4-7.13, New York 7.1(d)–(e)).
  7. No mention of certification or “specialist” unless the state certification is on record. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(c); state certification rules.
  8. Claiming a law firm profile requires a signed attestation; we store who attested, when, and a hash of their IP address. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(d) (responsibility for content).
  9. Pricing is a flat subscription. There is no pricing per lead, click, call or case. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(b) (no payment for recommendations); state fee-sharing rules.

Insurance listings

  1. No quote forms, rates, premiums, policy comparisons or “get covered” buttons. Agency profiles link only to the agency’s own phone and website. Follows: State producer licensing laws (NAIC Producer Licensing Model Act §3) and anti-rebating rules.
  2. Insurance pages never collect personal data. There are no consumer forms at all. Follows: State referral-fee and lead rules; TCPA (47 U.S.C. §227).
  3. Insurance guides explain coverage in general terms and say they are not insurance advice. Follows: State unlicensed-advice rules (strictest reading).
  4. Agency profiles show license number, issuing department and lines of authority from the public record when available. Follows: State producer disclosure rules (e.g. California Insurance Code §1725.5).

Everywhere

  1. Sponsored listings say they are paid, shown in random order and not an endorsement. Follows: FTC endorsement guides (16 CFR 255); ABA Model Rule 7.1.
  2. The AI visibility measurement is never called a rating, rank or quality score. Every claimed profile, free or paid, is measured once. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.1; FTC Act §5 (no misleading comparisons).
  3. A disclaimer in the footer and on every profile says what this site is and is not. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.2(b); state lawyer referral and insurance producer definitions.
  4. These rules are published on this page, linked from the footer and from the page for firms. Follows: Transparency.
  5. Guides are checked against primary sources, cite each claim and show a last-checked date. We do not claim professional review. Follows: ABA Model Rule 7.1; FTC Act §5.
