How listings are ordered
Every listing page uses the same two rules, and nothing else.
1. Sponsored slots
Sponsored slots are paid advertising. A page shows at most 3. They appear first, in random order, and each carries a grey “Sponsored” label that links to this page with this note: “Sponsored listing. Shown in random order among paid listings. Not an endorsement or recommendation.” Sponsored law firm listings are also labeled “Attorney Advertising”.
2. Everything else
On city pages, all other listings are ordered by straight-line distance from the city center (the Census Bureau’s internal point for the city). On state and practice-area pages, they are in alphabetical order.
What payment never changes
- License data shown on a profile.
- AI visibility measurements.
- The order of non-sponsored listings.
No page sorts, filters or highlights listings by AI visibility. We do not match visitors with businesses or recommend any listing.
Random order is drawn each time a page is generated. Pages are regenerated at least daily.
